In addition to being selected to design the two original Hyatt Hotels at Changbaishan International Resort, Zehren and Associates was asked to develop schematic designs for the Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express Hotels as part of the original master plan. When the master plan underwent major revisions due to client changes, the locations for these two hotels were changed and Zehren was then charged with collaborating with the Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG) in the development of two separate buildings that contained the Holiday Inn and Suites and were part of the final pedestrian street design for the resort.
The original Holiday Inn Hotel was designed as a four-star resort hotel with direct ski-in/ ski-out access. The Holiday Inn Express was located next to its sister hotel and was designed with three-star accommodations. Both hotels featured covered porte cocheres and the amenities expected in a world-class, four-season resort. Under the revised Master Plan, Zehren and Associates later designed the Holiday Inn and Suites, within two separate buildings—these two buildings form an integral part of the primary pedestrian street at Changbaishan. The two buildings total 30,000 square meters and contain 180 hotel suites, along with ski and boot storage, underground parking, retail shops, restaurants, and other important pedestrian street functions.
The Changbaishan Holiday Inn and Suites have been constructed and are fully operational within the resort.
