Zehren and Associates was asked to collaborate on the existing master plan for Spruce Peak at Stowe, and in doing so recommended the inclusion of smaller-scale retail buildings within the primary plaza, to help “humanize” the scale of the plaza and overall resort. One of these smaller buildings was “The Beanery and Pantry” which acts as the primary coffee shop and grab-n-go market for the resort. The building is flanked by Spruce Peak Lodge on one side and the Base Lodge on the other, along the primary pedestrian entrance to the resort and adjacent to the main ice rink. As such, The Beanery and Pantry attracts skiers and pedestrians from all sides of the resort and makes for a wonderful location to grab a coffee in the morning and a sandwich for the ski slopes later. The Pantry also features local Vermont wines, beer, cheeses, meats, and chocolates.
The remaining Retail Buildings now accommodate small retail spaces of approximately 1,000 SF each, including specialty retail such as jewelry, art, outdoor clothing, and the like, along with the “Skinny Pancake” eatery.
