The Changbaishan International Resort is a four-season recreation destination located in northeastern China’s Jilin Province and is home to three golf courses in addition to nationally-renown skiing. Zehren and Associates provided design for the clubhouses and ancillary support buildings located on the Jack Nicklaus- and Robert Trent Jones-designed courses.
The 18-hole, 7400 yard Jack Nicklaus signature course is located near the ski slopes and the main resort village and features the 7500 square meter Jack Nicklaus Clubhouse, a 30 - 40 lane stroke training (driving range) facility, a 100 square meter midway house prototype, a gate house, and 1150 square meter maintenance facility. As part of a design competition Zehren and Associates provided preliminary design services for the clubhouse building that utilizes local materials, expansive glass, and large exterior decks to take full advantage of the views to the course and neighboring ski area slopes. Tower elements and varying roof heights are used at the clubhouse to help break up the massing and create visual interest from the exterior.
