At the Mesa Townhomes, Zehren and Associates designed 14 units within 7 speculative duplex townhome buildings designed for a steep hillside lot in Santa Barbara. Most of the units (8 of the 14) are provided at market rate and are approximately 1,375 - 2,200 square feet in size, with 3-bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and 2-car garages. The remaining 6 units are affordable units of approximately 1,050 square feet and have 2 bedrooms and 2-1/2 baths, again with 2-car garages.
The Mesa Townhomes are designed to fit into the steep, sloping hillside as they work their way up the topography of the existing natural terrain. Each unit faces south, capturing uninterrupted views of the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Barbara Channel Islands. Because of their proximity to Santa Barbara City College, Zehren worked with the City of Santa Barbara to provide the affordable units as faculty housing.
