Schweitzer Mountain Resort, located in northern Idaho on the shores of Lake Pend Orielle, is among the top family ski resorts in North America. Zehren and Associates was the principal firm involved in the planning of this four-season resort.
At the heart of the project is a mid-mountain pedestrian village consisting of artisan shops, boutiques, restaurants, hotels, conference facilities, condominiums, skating rink, swimming pools, and private residences. Careful planning of streets and vehicular access to underground parking facilities creates an environment free of cars, where pedestrians can enjoy narrow alleyways that open onto plazas overlooking Lake Pend Orielle and Schweitzer Mountain. A network of skier bridges, tunnels, and skiways provide skier access throughout the village. Other resort facilities include a golf course, tennis courts, and an amphitheater.
